A4 Community Care Services Nutrition Statement

At A4 Community Care Services, we are dedicated to enhancing food security within the Brisbane community. Our efforts include striving towards the goal of providing high-quality, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food that aligns with Australia's guide to healthy eating. We also aim to make our food easily accessible and convenient for our clients.

Our First Priority

At A4 Community Care Services, one of Brisbane's largest food relief organizations, our first priority is to provide food to those in need. We achieve this by accepting all eligible food offered to us by food companies and the general public. Our goal is to help as many people as possible, and we are committed to making a positive impact in our community.

Its not just about a "Plate of Food"

At A4 Community Care Services, we understand that food insecurity is about more than just providing a plate of food. While it's essential to provide kilojoules to alleviate hunger, it's not enough. In fact, over 21% of Australians experienced food insecurity in the last year, ranging from anxiety about accessing food to going without food altogether. Food insecurity isn't just about an empty plate - it's also about the quality, diversity, and nutritional standards of the food being consumed. As the number of individuals seeking food relief from charities continues to grow, our mission to provide nutrient-rich foods to reduce negative health impacts becomes increasingly important.

Food Security

At A4 Community Care Services, we believe that food security is a fundamental human right. As defined by the United Nations, food security exists when all people have access to safe, nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and preferences. This encompasses physical, social, and economic access, enabling individuals to live an active and healthy life.

The Four Pillars of food security are availability, access, utilization, and stability.

  1. Availability refers to the quantity and quality of food produced and imported, while,

  2. Access addresses the ability of individuals to obtain food through various channels.

  3. Utilisation focuses on the nutritional value and safety of food, and

  4. Stability pertains to the sustainability of the food supply over time.

We are committed to promoting food security and raising awareness about the importance of each of these four pillars. Join us in our mission to ensure that everyone has access to sufficient safe and nutritious food for a healthy and fulfilling life.

Nutrition is Important

At A4 Community Care Services, we understand the critical role that nutrition plays in the health and well-being of individuals. Unfortunately, for those who are disadvantaged, accessing healthy food can be a significant challenge.

People experiencing food insecurities often face barriers, such as limited financial resources and insufficient nutritional knowledge, preventing them from accessing fresh fruits and vegetables and maintaining optimal eating patterns.

Food insecurity can lead to an increased risk of developing chronic illnesses, including type two diabetes, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, and mental health issues in adults. In children, food insecurity is associated with poor general health, development, and academic outcomes.

We believe that everyone deserves access to healthy and nutritious food, regardless of their circumstances. Through our website, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition and advocate for solutions that address food insecurity and promote healthy eating for all. Join us in our mission to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities through better nutrition.
